Texas State HIE Plan
Pursuant to Chapter 182 of the Texas Health & Safety Code, the Texas Health Services Authority (THSA) is the sole entity responsible for promoting, implementing, and facilitating the voluntary and secure exchange of health information on a statewide basis. This includes activities such as implementing the State HIE Plan, originally created in partnership with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, and approved by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) in 2010.
The THSA board of directors, each of whom are appointed by the governor to oversee the development of HIE in Texas, supplemented the State HIE Plan in 2014 after obtaining feedback from a diverse group of Texas HIE stakeholders. A copy of the 2014 State HIE Plan is available here. The THSA will update this plan as the HIE market in Texas continues to develop.
